Overview of Nursery
Three Peaks Primary Academy offers Nursery aged children the 15 hours a week entitlement in 2 and half days per week. The sessions are – Monday and Tuesday 9 am – 3pm and Wednesday 9 am – 12pm. We also offer, on a first come first served basis the 30 hours a week entitlement, which would be 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday – subject to a 30hr eligibility code being valid.
We are aware that starting nursery is a huge change for children and parents. During the first couple of weeks in September we offer home visits, where the nursery staff visit you at home to introduce ourselves to your child. It also gives you the opportunity to talk over any worries or concerns you may have over your child starting nursery. We find that the home visits often help children settle quicker into nursery.
We also stagger the hours the children come into nursery during the first few weeks to ensure they are fully settled and happy to be left at nursery. The children will have a named key person within the setting. This key person will be your main point of contact within the nursery for information, as well as being the main person to help settle your child into nursery life.
A Day in Nursery
During the day there is time for extended child initiated play where staff support and increase the children’s learning through the play they have chosen to take part in. There will also be short group carpet sessions, such as a story or a game where the adult leads the activity. The children will also take part in a daily maths and phonics activities to support and extend their learning. The children’s interests are used as a basis for learning activities.
The staff record the children’s learning using Tapesty – an online learning journey. This information is used then to plan the next steps in the children’s learning. The children have access to the outdoor environment to enhance and develop their learning further. The children have snack daily, with the choice of fruit and either milk or water. The children will have lunch while they are at nursery for the all day sessions. The children can either have a school lunch or a healthy packed lunch.
