Overview of Nursery

Three Peaks Primary Academy offers all Nursery aged children the 15 hours a week entitlement over 5 morning sessions of 3 hours. We also offer, on a first come first served basis, the 30 hours a week entitlement, which would be 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday – subject to a 30 hours eligibility code being valid.

We are aware that starting nursery is a huge change for children and parents. During the first couple of weeks in September we offer home visits, where the nursery staff visit you at home to introduce ourselves to your child. It also gives you the opportunity to talk over any worries or concerns you may have over your child starting nursery. We find that the home visits often help children settle quicker into nursery.

We also stagger the hours the children come into nursery during the first few weeks to ensure they are fully settled and happy to be left at nursery. The children will have a named key person within the setting. This key person will be your main point of contact within the nursery for information, as well as being the main person to help settle your child into nursery life.

We recognise the importance of high quality early years provision and ensure that all children are taught and supported by experienced members of staff. Both Reception and Nursery work closely together to ensure that the children have both an enjoyable and successful Early Years experience. An experience where they get to explore the world around them , discover new and exciting things and wonder at what they have learnt about and discovered.

A Day in Nursery
During the day there is time for extended child initiated play where staff support and increase the children’s learning through the play they have chosen to take part in. There will also be short group carpet sessions, such as a story or a game where the adult leads the activity. The children will also take part in a daily maths and phonics activities to support and extend their learning. The children’s interests are used as a basis for learning activities.

The children have access to the outdoor environment to enhance and develop their learning further. The children have snack daily, with the choice of fruit and either milk or water. The children will have lunch while they are at nursery for the all day sessions. The children can either have a school lunch or a healthy packed lunch.

We are aware that starting Nursery and Reception can be a huge change for children and parents. In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, Three Peaks staff will work closely with parents, carers and other settings to ensure the children know who they will be working with and what the environment is like. Parents and carers will get the chance to meet and chat with teachers and support staff to share any concerns they have and to discuss any needs and to celebrate what their child can do.

Throughout Early Years, the staff at Three Peaks ensure that strong relationships are forged with home. The children’s learning and achievements are recorded using a system called Tapestry which allows parents/carers to see what work the children have been doing in school, what they have learnt and what can be done to support them more at home. Parents/carers are also encouraged to share thing that the children have done out of school using Tapestry which allows our staff to celebrate with the children and fully get to know their pupils.
