Welcome to the Year 6 Page!
The teachers in Year 6 are Miss Villers and Mr Imber.
We are supported by Mrs Frost and Mrs Millward.
This page will give you all the relevant information you need to find out about Year 6.
Year 6 News:
- We are looking forward to our Laches Wood residential trip which is the week beginning 26th November. We will hold an information evening closer to the time (more details to follow).
- Our PE day is a Tuesday. Please make sure your child has a suitable kit in school for this day.
- Reading diaries need to be returned every Wednesday. Wednesday is also our library day where children will have the opportunity to take out new books each week.
- SATS week is the week beginning Monday 13th May and runs through to Thursday 16th May.
MACHINE GUNNERS (World War II).
Within this topic we will cover aspects such as the outbreak of the war, evacuation, rationing, the role of women and advancements in technology.
Children will be asked to complete a project on a given aspect of this new topic during this half term (handed out on the 7th September).
During this topic, children will learn about major discoveries in electricity and will be given the opportunity to observe and explain the effects of differing volts within a circuit.
Furthermore, we will practically explore relationships between different components within a circuit.
In Maths, we will be focusing on place value and number. Children will be learning / revising the four operations and place value in a range of thought provoking ways.
Children will also get the opportunity to enjoy the competitive element of our 99 club which requires rapid recall of known number facts. They will also be revising daily their arithmetic methods with our Fluent in Five.
Useful links for revision:
The following resource is truly fantastic! You can access all areas of The Y6 Maths Curriculum and find past SATs questions linked. There are also videos which talk through ways of solving and answering each question. You will also find complete past papers and problems of the day.
We are working hard to develop our reading and writing skills. As part of our Literacy sessions, we will be completing some exciting pieces of creative writing which the children will then self edit and present. In reading, we will be examining a range of texts and focusing on different ways to extract information.
Homework will be set every Friday and children are asked to return this on a Wednesday. There is a homework club available on a Tuesday with Mrs Blaby if there is any difficulty in finding time.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our page - we hope that you will check back soon!
