Geography
At Three Peaks Primary Academy we aim to provide a high-quality geography education through our Curriculum, that inspires in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
History
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we believe a high-quality History education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
Religious Education
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we believe that a high-quality religious education will help pupils’ gain a coherent knowledge and understanding, where they can articulate clearly and confidently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences.
RE is taught using the ‘Discovery RE’ scheme. It adapts an enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. Religious Education is a key player in engendering knowledge and understanding however, does not teach children to passively accept, but rather encourages evaluation and critical thinking, equipping them to consider beliefs and positions they encounter. Progression is evident through building upon the pupil’s prior knowledge, allowing them to follow the steps of engaging and investigating the different religions, leading to the process of evaluating and expressing to ensure understanding and progress is made. This should inspire and build each child’s ‘religious literacy’, helping them to understand the nature and diversity of religion and belief in the world in which they live and the relationships between different groups of society.
Personal, Social, Health Education and Sex and Relationship Education (PSHE)
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning. To ensure progression and a spiral curriculum, we use Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, as our chosen teaching and learning programme and tailor it to your children’s needs. The Jigsaw programme offers us a comprehensive, carefully thought-through scheme of work which brings consistency and progression to our children’s learning in this vital curriculum area.
Art and Design
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we believe that pupils should master Art and Design through effective teaching of the key areas; making, generating ideas, formal elements, knowledge of artists and evaluation of their art. Children at Three Peaks Primary Academy are taught art and design through a progression of skills, building on their previous learning and ensuring progress is made. We encourage our pupils to enjoy and explore the work of different artists and to appreciate the enrichment that visual art brings to life.
Design and Technology
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we believe that Design and Technology should be an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. The children at Three Peaks are taught to acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and wellbeing of the nation.
Music
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we aim to support all children to see themselves as musicians. Through our music curriculum, children gain a firm understanding of what music is by listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. We are committed to developing a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding of a range of different genres of music and their different features.
Computing
Through the Computing curriculum at Three Peaks Primary Academy, we aim to give our pupils the life- kills necessary to embrace and utilise technology in a safe and responsible manner. We believe that through our computing teaching, we are preparing children for workplaces of the future, jobs that may not have even been invented yet, and giving them the skills to truly thrive in the 21st century. Children will become independent users of a range of technologies and devices to become digitally literate. Our programme provides opportunities to develop computational thinking and problem solving skills as well as creativity and resilience. We use a variety of hardware and software to support learning across the curriculum and in bespoke practices to ensure accessibility for every child. We aim to instill a love of computing in our pupils to encourage further study of the subject and create digital citizens with an understanding of themselves within their local and global community
Physical Education (PE)
At Three Peaks Primary Academy, we believe that Physical Education (PE), experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development and good health. We intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills. We want to teach children skills to keep them safe such as being able to swim. We also want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values. Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Three Peaks, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines that we hold dear.
